The YSC is looking to expand its volunteer team!

All new team members will have a chance to support us in shaping the YSC 2024, future fellow events as well as the fellow experience. Please note that the roles are mostly online and on a volunteer basis. 

Below you will find more information on each role. We have included a profile section to help you write your applications, but please do still apply even if you don't meet every criteria. Job descriptions are also intended to convey information essential to understanding the scope of the position and are not an exhaustive list of skills, efforts, duties, responsibilities, or working conditions associated with it.

Communications Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Communications, Academia and Operations team to develop and implement communication plans and strategies.

  • Create visually appealing content using Canva for various communication materials including for events.

  • Assist in the development and execution of social media content across multiple platforms.

  • Monitor and analyze engagement metrics to optimize content and outreach strategies.

  • Stay informed about European foreign and security policies and contribute to content related to these topics.

  • Collaborate with team members to brainstorm and develop innovative communication initiatives.

  • Work both independently and collaboratively to meet project deadlines and objectives.

Your Profile:

  • Fluent in English (working knowledge of French and/or German is desirable).

  • Strong knowledge of and interest in European foreign and security policies.

  • Proven experience in creating designs using Canva or similar graphic design tools.

  • Demonstrated experience in social media content creation and communications work.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Project Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute a range of events and panels hosted by YSC including its fellowship, ensuring seamless execution and a high level of attendee satisfaction.

  • Identify and engage potential speakers, securing their participation in YSC events and its fellowship.

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with speakers, providing them with necessary information, materials, and support leading up to and during events.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop event agendas, collateral, and promotional materials.

  • Coordinate logistical details for events, including catering, equipment, and other event-related services.

  • Manage event budgets, tracking expenses and ensuring events stay within budgetary constraints.

  • Assist in the development of marketing and promotional strategies to increase event attendance and engagement.

  • Conduct post-event evaluations to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement.

Your Profile:

  • Fluent in English (working knowledge of French and/or German is desirable).

  • Experience in event planning and management, with a track record of successfully organizing and executing events and panels.

  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with speakers and stakeholders.

  • Detail-oriented and proactive, with a focus on ensuring all aspects of events run smoothly.

  • Proficiency in event management software and tools.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Research Fellow

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth research on topics relevant to YSC's mission and objectives, producing original and insightful academic content.

  • Collaborate with team members to conceptualize and develop events and social media materials, ensuring they are informed by rigorous academic research and address key issues in the field.

  • Write and publish research papers, articles, and reports based on findings, contributing to YSC's intellectual contributions and thought leadership.

  • Engage with external experts, scholars, and practitioners to gather insights and perspectives for events and research projects.

  • Stay current with the latest research trends and developments in relevant fields of study.

Your Profile:

  • Fluent in English (working knowledge of French and/or German is desirable).

  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting research, with a focus on producing high-quality academic output.

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to generate innovative ideas and insights.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distill complex concepts for a broader audience.

  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Previous experience in event conceptualization and organization is a plus.
