Democratic Backsliding

Exclusive Fellow Session

1pm - 2pm, 25th May 2023

This Fellow Session is a workshop session. It will focus on the new vulnerabilities and threats emerging from democratic backsliding around the world, their implications for Western alliances and the liberal world order, and possible future scenarios. This session will also shed new light on how liberal democracies can anticipate and manage these multifaceted threats. This hybrid session will host the class of Prof. Frédéric Charillon (Professor in International Relations, Université Paris Cité, Sciences Po Paris, ENA) via Zoom at ESSEC Business School Paris.

Moderated by Prof. Pamela Camerra-Rowe

Pamela Camerra-Rowe is a Political Science professor at Kenyon College with a focus on political parties, interest groups, and democratic governance. Currently on sabbatical in Europe, she is studying the responses of center-right parties to the rise of right-wing populism and working on a book about democracy's fragility. With extensive experience as a journalist and fellow in various institutions, she holds a Ph.D. and MA in Political Science from Duke University and a BA from Davidson College.
